Product Features Key
These products are designed to detect the presence of water wherever they’re placed. A notification is then pushed to your smart device through a technology providers’ app, alerting you that water has been detected, which sensor is reporting, and that action should be taken. These sensors are typically placed near plumbing fixtures and appliances, including water heaters, washing machines, sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, etc.
Many of these devices have additional sensing capabilities, including temperature and humidity. This data is reported through the technology provider’s app and alerts can generally be configured on these conditions, too.
These monitors can be professionally or self-installed in one location in the house. Utilizing vibration, sound detection, and ultrasonic pulses, the devices are designed to detect how much water is being used and, in some cases, to which fixture. Anomalies may indicate a leak somewhere in the home. All usage patterns are generally published to a dashboard—this could not only notify you of a potential leak but also lets you analyze water usage to identify ways to conserve (and potentially save money on your water bill!).
These devices are also either professionally or self-installed at a home’s main valve. When paired with a leak detector or through recognizing anomalies, the main-water supply to the house can be shut off automatically, long before leaks become disasters. Because these devices are designed to do more than simply alert homeowners to the presence of a problem, policy premium discounts tend to be greater.
These next-generation sump pumps and sump sensors are placed into sump pits and designed to detect and measure water levels in real-time. Notifications are sent if the pit is filling above acceptable levels.
