What is the American Modern ConnectedHome program?

American Modern is bringing the power of Smart Homes to our policyholders and their homes as a way to proactively protect from possible damage. The ConnectedHome program was started to bring awareness of water damage severity, lower the cost of water protection devices through our partner network, and provide a discount on any eligible Homeowners FLEX® policy insurance premium for participation in the program.

Why should I participate?

Water damage is costly! Although your insurance covers a variety of household damages, water damage is still a significant loss… the deductible, loss of personal property (kid’s artwork, grandmas photos), and potentially the loss of the use of your home for a period of time. This can be emotionally devastating… water damage can be disastrous

The American Modern Connected Home program provides a discount on any eligible Homeowners FLEX® policy insurance premium and a discount on water protection devices provided by our partners.

Are these devices cost effective?

SmartHome technologies are becoming more and more available and affordable. Compared to your deductible, one averted water event could more than pay for the cost of a device through the American Modern ConnectedHome program.

Who is eligible?

Currently any American Modern Homeowners FLEX policy holder in an eligible state (shown below) is eligible to get a premium discount. How do I get my discount?

Select the product best suited for your needs, get your discount and then purchase the device directly from the device partner. • When you receive and install the device, contact your American Modern insurance agent or customer service at 1-800-543-2644 to apply any applicable connected home policy premium discounts.

How much is the premium discount?

American Modern offers qualified policies a discount of up to 5% for a smart water sensor and up to 9% for a smart auto shutoff device. The premium discount applies to the policy water peril and is available in eligible states.

Which product is right for me?

We’ve built a partner network that is wide enough for some flexibility, but doesn’t overwhelm you with options. Check out the different devices to see which one is right for you.

Things you might consider include: your budget, whether or not you will hire a professional for installation, and your knowledge of your home and the areas subject to water leaks (water heater, dishwasher, and washing machines are common areas of plumbing or mechanical failure).

As you think about your budget, keep in mind that a single deductible related to a water event could cover up to 5x the cost of one of these devices, which might have enabled you to limit the loss of kids artwork, grandmas photos, displacement, and headaches associated with water damage.

How do I get support for these devices? Are there other services?

Each device provider has technical support for their devices, installation, apps, and connectivity issues. Please contact device provider support directly.

To activate your policy premium discount on an eligible Homeowners FLEX policy, please contact your agent.

While not required, many of the device partners offer installation, maintenance or monitoring service for an additional fee. You are not required to purchase additional services in order to receive a policy premium discount on an eligible Homeowners FLEX policy
